Pro musica press, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1967 to publish new translations and new editions of neglected books on voice. Originally founded to publish the series "Masterworks on Singing", a series named "20th Century Masterworks on Singing" was begun the following year in response to the need for an outlet for important new books on voice. In addition to that, the press has from time to time published non-serial books which do not seem to fit easily into either series.
Recommendations and manuscript submissions are always welcome. Editions are normally limited to 500 copies hardbound, but a series of paperback reprints was begun in 1995 to make these important texts available to a new generation of singers and teachers.
The General Editor and principal translator is Edward Foreman, who holds the degrees M.M from the University of Colorado, and D.M.A. from the University of Illinois. He studied voice with Martial Singher, Leslie Chabay, Aksel Schiøtz and William Miller, has sung professionally with various opera companies and orchestras, and maintains an active vocal studio as a teacher.
